The Christian Life: Brotherly Love

As I was doing my devotions this morning, I came across this verse:

"Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another" (1 Thes 4:9).

What an incredible commendation! Paul didn't need to tell them how to love one another because they were already doing it so well! Compare this to 1 Corinthians, where Paul has to write an entire chapter about what love for one another in the Body of Christ looks like. Instead, Paul says here that the Thessalonians have been taught by God--that is, the Holy Spirit helped them realize that love for one another is the natural implication of the good news of the gospel. God has lavished his love on them; therefore, they lavished love on each other.

If Paul were to write a letter to our church today, what would he say about the way we love one another?
