Moses wrote Genesis pointing to Jesus—The Promised One. How many times does Jesus appear throughout Genesis? “Beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, [Jesus] interpreted to [the disciples] in all the scriptures the things concerning himself” (Luke 24:27). Have you seen Him? The gospel is first given, although in partial form, in Genesis 3:15 immediately after Adam and Eve sinned. During the quarter we will find Jesus in the act of Creation, the Fall, the account of Noah, and in the lives of the Patriarchs. These types and shadows of Christ will be further given meaning by using the New Testament to help understand Genesis. In this way, we can look back to the beginning with the end in mind and through gospel eyes.

This study is based on Nancy Guthrie’s book titled The Promised One. The book is optional but is an excellent resource for those desiring to delve deeper into each topic beyond what will be covered in class.
